Whilst one of the keys to a successful podcast is your content, you also need to ensure the podcast cover art is top notch.

Why?

Because your podcast cover art is the very first thing your audience will see before consuming your content. Therefore, you need to attract them and convince them to engage at the exact moment.

In order to achieve that, we’ve listed our top tips and a little walkthrough on how to create beautiful eye-catching podcast cover art for free.

Top Tips For Successful Podcast Cover Art

1. Get the size right!

In order for your podcast cover art to be eye-catching and get accepted in the major podcast directories, you first need to ensure the sizing is correct. This applies to all major directories such as iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play and many others.

Podcast Cover Art Size: Your cover art for the above directories should ideally be 1400 x 1400 pixels minimum, and no larger than 3000 x 3000 pixels. The DPI should be 72 and in either JPEG or PNG format.

2. Avoid using too many words

Remember, your podcast covert art needs to look fantastic when it’s both displayed big and small. The best way to keep it eye-catching and still readable is by not using too many words. Ideally, try to cut down your text as much as possible and only keep the very important words. For the best results, you’ll want to use less than five words.

3. Stick to one or two fonts!

If you’re using too many fonts, you’ll cause too many distractions and it might not appeal to your audience. We’d suggest sticking with only one or two fonts max.

4. Stand out!

You want your podcast cover art to stand out, right? If so, avoid using the generic overused microphones and headphones artwork. There’s simply just too many podcast covers utilising them, and they don’t represent what the podcast is actually about. Instead, find some unique, interesting and high-quality imagery that will stand out for your podcast. If you take the images yourself, that’s even better!

How To Create Eye-Catching Podcast Cover Art

When it comes to creating cover art for your podcast, there are a few handy tools out there. Some of which are available on the web and others available via App Stores. Below, I’ve highlighted my favourite tool and a short guide on how to create podcast cover art using the tool.

Creating Podcast Cover Art using Canva

Canva is a brilliant tool for creating high-quality engaging imagery, whether that’s for social media, email newsletters, blog posts etc, the tool is equipped with most templates and sizes. However, sadly, there is no current template nor size pre-created for Podcasts, but… it’s still possible and here’s how.

Once you’ve logged into Canva, click on the “Custom dimensions” box and type in the appropriate size; 3000 x 3000 pixels.
